If you’re feeling depressed or down on your luck on this dreary Tuesday morning John Randle Jersey
, you can take solace in two very important facts:If you live in the United States, you can vote today. Making your voice heard is an incredible privilege that we should all take advantage of. You truly can make a difference. At least you aren’t Matthew Stafford. The beleaguered Detroit Lions quarterback was sacked ten times on Sunday, which was a franchise record for the Minnesota Vikings. Detroit was kept out of the end zone and scored one less point than the amount of sacks they allowed. While the Vikings offense sputtered for a large portion of the game, the resurgent Minnesota defense stymied a Detroit team that was definitely missing the newly jettisoned Golden Tate. The Vikings passed the first obstacle in their three-game divisional gauntlet with flying colors. They now have the bye week to rest injuries to key players and prepare to battle for first place in the NFC North next Sunday night in Chicago.Since we’re already a day late due to the lack of Wi-Fi at my deer hunting cabin, let’s get right to our weekly review of which plays made the biggest difference in the game.Play 1: Vikings ball, 4th & 2 on the Detroit 37. First quarter, 11:38 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Cousins pass short right to C.Beebe to DET 24 for 13 yards (T.Tabor).With Stefon Diggs out, Chad Beebe got his first NFL action after being promoted from the Practice Squad. It didn’t take long for the undrafted free agent out of Northern Illinois to make an impact in his first game as a pro.On fourth down in the game’s opening drive, Beebe made quick work of Teez Tabor to get open on the right side. Kirk Cousins found him for the crucial conversion. Three plays later, Latavius Murray was (just barely) holding the nose of the ball over the goal line for a touchdown.Beebe was impressive in Training Camp despite giving up a lot of size to most of his contemporaries. The route he ran on this play was indicative of what he excelled at in Eagan. I wrote this about him in my offensive player evaluations article back in August:Being incredibly quick and shifty underneath proved to be invaluable for getting the Vikings started right on Sunday. It looked like the rest of Cousins’ options were well covered on the play.Play 2: Lions ball Alan Page Jersey
, 3rd & 13 at the Minnesota 15. Second quarter, 5:27 remaining. (Shotgun) M.Stafford sacked at MIN 16 for -1 yards (D.Hunter).Fun fact: the Vikings didn’t actually have a sack in the first quarter on Sunday. The Lions ran 18 offensive plays blissfully unaware of the historic beating they were about to take. But after Tom Johnson and Sheldon Richardson took down Stafford to hold Detroit to a field goal early in the second quarter, the floodgates were officially open. The Vikings racked up ten sacks on 51 defensive snaps in just under 44 minutes of game time. And they needed just about every one, especially when the game was still in the balance. After Cousins forced a deep ball to Adam Thielen that was intercepted by Darius Slay, Detroit was looking to take the lead. They faced 1st & 10 from the Minnesota 12 with just over six minutes left in the half. Their next three plays:ThrowawaySack by Eversion Griffen and Danielle HunterThis playThe entire Vikings defensive line did well on this play. Griffen and Richardson diagnosed the screen early and both jumped to deter Stafford making the quick throw. Johnson kept Stafford in front of him while Hunter finished the job and forced the field goal attempt. But after looking at the All-22, you realize why this play had little chance of success regardless of how the Vikings line played it.None of the Lions receivers looked back to catch the screen; they all went out to block. This play was a perfect example of two intertwined themes that dominated the game: while the Vikings defense was amazing, Jim Bob Cooter and the Lions offense didn’t seem to be doing themselves any favors with their execution. While the Vikings offense had execution problems of their own most of the game, the first play on the ensuing drive went exactly how they drew it up.Play 3: Vikings ball, 1st & 10 at the Minnesota 25. Second quarter, 4:45 remaining. (Shotgun) D.Cook left tackle to DET 5 for 70 yards (G.Quin).Dalvin Cook. What a sight for sore hamstrings. Err Randy Moss Jersey
, eyes.In my preview on Thursday, I wrote about how the Lions had struggled against runs out of the shotgun. Regardless of whether that was something the Vikings staff had also noticed or just dumb luck on my part, Cook nearly took this run to the house. While Murray has been an excellent fill-in during Cook’s struggles with a hamstring injury, the second year back adds another element of speed and explosion. Two plays later, Cousins found Thielen in the end zone and the Vikings were up 14-6.Play 4: Lions ball, 4th & 6 at the Detroit 37. Second quarter, 0:50 remaining. S.Martin punts 39 yards to MIN 24, Center-D.Muhlbach. M.Sherels to MIN 48 for 24 yards (A.Jones).Sometimes you have to scroll down to the bottom of the box score for some of the biggest plays. This 24-yard punt return by Marcus Sherels didn’t make many highlight packages, but it proved to be crucial. With under a minute remaining, the longtime special teams ace put the Vikings in great field position to try for points before the break. One has to wonder if Zimmer still would have gone after a score if the Vikings were farther back in their own territory; he didn’t last week against the Saints. Despite the requisite two-minute drill adventures from the Vikings offense Cris Carter Jersey
, they were able to get a 49-yard field goal from Dan Bailey with four seconds remaining.Adding the field goal just before half meant Minnesota was taking a double-digit lead into the locker room. Suddenly the Lions were in catch-up mode for the remainder of the game, and the Vikings defense took full advantage. If they didn’t snatch the three points set up by Sherels’ punt return before half, perhaps the mindset is a bit different on both sides of the ball.Play 5: Lions ball, 2nd & 14 on the Detroit 37. Fourth quarter, 7:11 remaining. (Shotgun) M.Stafford to DET 38 for 1 yard. FUMBLES, RECOVERED by MIN-D.Hunter at DET 32. D.Hunter for 32 yards, TOUCHDOWN.The first 23 minutes of the second half basically went like this:Lions get the ball. Stafford gets sacked a bunch, Detroit punts.Vikings get the ball. Promising drive stalls due to wholly avoidable mistake.Repeat.Despite a historically commanding performance from the Vikings defense, Detroit was still hanging around halfway through the final quarter. Cook had just dropped a pitch from Cousins to stop a drive that could have been the knockout blow. So Danielle Hunter just did it himself instead.Once again, Stafford was flushed out of the pocket by a four-man rush and the coverage didn’t leave anything open. He tried to improvise a pitch to Kerryon Johnson Chris Doleman Jersey
, which went horribly wrong. Hunter, who started the play getting double-teamed by Johnson, kept pursuing and took advantage of the fortuitous bounce. The NFC Defensive Player of the Week (it hasn’t been announced yet, but he’s going to win it) scored the only points of the second half for the Vikings and the Lions never threatened again. There is still plenty to clean up, especially on the offensive side of the ball, as the Vikings head into their perfectly-timed bye week. But the performances this Mike Zimmer defense has strung together since getting ran off the field in Los Angeles have been very impressive. They appear to be rounding into form for the second half of the season. The race for the six playoff spots in the NFC should be riveting down the stretch, and it’s a race that the Vikings should be heavily involved in.As always, we welcome you to vote in the poll to tell us which play you thought was the biggest and encourage you to suggest any we may have missed in the comments. Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen returned to the Vikings on Wednesday and took part in practice with the team for the first time since taking a leave to deal with personal issues. The move to focus on that aspect of his life came after a series of disturbing incidents inside and outside of work and Griffen apologized “to the people I impacted” while taking full responsibility for the actions during a press conference. He declined to discuss the specifics of his issues, but said it was the right thing for him and something that he expects to address at some point in the future.“This is bigger than football,” Griffen said. “This is all part of the process. We’ve got a good group of individuals in place — the Minnesota Vikings Chuck Foreman Jersey
, myself, my doctors, my family. We’ve got a plan in place. We’re going to execute the plan day in and day out. We’re going to stay on top of it. That’s our goal.”Griffen, who said there’s been no determination about whether he’d play, urged others who might be struggling to get help and hopes that when he shares his story that it will provide some help to people in similar situations.

As expected Womens Tyler Higbee Jersey
, the Los Angeles Rams’ week 9 matchup in New Orleans was a shootout, as the two teams combined for 80 points. Unfortunately, the Rams couldn’t quite sustain momentum after erasing a 35-17 halftime deficit, and some key plays down the stretch by the Saints earned them the W at home. Here’s a look back at how Sean Wilkinson’s five Rams to watch fared on Sunday.QB Jared GoffAfter a 3-game stretch which saw Goff register just 3 TDs and 3 INTs, the Rams QB has now thrown for 6 TDs against 1 INT in his last two. His performance on Sunday was stellar. His lone INT (on a great play from Saints LB Alex Anzalone) was unfortunate, but otherwise he threw the ball into some tight windows and moved the team at will. He continues to exert better pocket presence, command of the offense, and confidence in his throws as he builds on his impressive 2017 campaign.RB Todd GurleyNot a big day for JTG in this one, as he was held to just 68 yards and a TD on 13 carries, and notched just 11 yards on 6 catches. The game flow had a lot to do with matters, as the Rams both fell behind and found success in the passing game with relative ease. Yes, the New Orleans run D also had something to do with it, but certainly this isn’t anything to be concerned about. DL Aaron DonaldIt was also a pretty quiet afternoon for Aaron Donald, as he was credited with just one tackle (for loss, crushing Saints RB Alvin Kamara), and one pass deflection. We can save all of the “he gets held on every play” chatter for another day as the Rams failed to sack Saints QB Drew Brees Michael Brockers Jersey
, and in the first half, he simply carved us up. Donald and Co. definitely got more pressure in the second half, but it was perhaps too little too late.OLB Dante FowlerRecently acquired OLB Dante Fowler played 44 snaps (62%) on Sunday, and from here, I thought he generally looked pretty good. Yes, he reminded some fans of former Rams DE Robert Quinn, often favoring a “one move” approach, and occasionally got swallowed up by blockers. That said, he did provide some pressure, forcing an errant Brees pass on a third down, and generally bringing some aggression and physicality the 2018 Rams have lacked. For a guy who got less than a week of practice in a new defense, I would say he had a strong debut.CB Marcus PetersPretty sure Sosa said it all here, but once again LA’s high-profile offseason acquisition was downright brutal against the Saints, as WR Michael Thomas made him look a high school freshman playing against the JV squad for the first time.Sean wrote: “Each time Peters allows a big play, he seems to be upset with the safeties. Whether that’s due to frustration or because he’s expecting help over the top is uncertain,” and pretty much nailed it: Peters did indeed appear to blame a lack of safety help when he surrendered the game-clinching TD pass. 9 games in http://www.theramslockerroom.com/authentic-joe-namath-jersey
, the former Chiefs all-pro is making Rams fans long for the days of Trumaine Johnson and Kayvon Webster. The Kansas City Chiefs had the Cardinals' Josh Rosen seeing red last week.As in a whole lot of red jerseys right in his face. The Chiefs sacked Arizona's rookie quarterback five times in their 26-14 victory. They hit him 13 times, forced a fumble and generally made life miserable on a cold afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium. No wonder Rosen was asked quite sympathetically how he felt after the game.Probably like he went through a trash compactor. But that performance by the Chiefs' much-maligned defense was closer to the norm than anything special this season. They already have 31 sacks to match their total from all last season, even though their highest-paid player and top pass rusher, Justin Houston, has missed four games to injury. That puts the Chiefs in a tie with Pittsburgh, Minnesota and Green Bay for the NFL lead."Defenses right now are stretched in the National Football League. You've seen it every week," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "To be able to get the pressure that we did on the quarterback (against the Cardinals) was a huge part of it. Stepping up with big plays when needed."The Chiefs struggled last season to pressure the quarterback, and there was little reason to think that would change this season. They brought back most of the same cast, though Tamba Hali stepped into retirement after an unproductive year and rookie Breeland Speaks took his spot, and defensive coordinator Bob Sutton was retained after coming under intense scrutiny. But the Chiefs did make a couple of other important changes to the coaching staff, replacing their longtime linebackers coach Gary Gibbs with Mark DeLeone and Mike Smith. DeLeon handles the inside guys and Smith handles the outside linebackers, and by splitting up the duties both of them are able to give more one-on-one time to their players' skill-specific needs. The progress is easiest to see in Dee Ford, the Chiefs' former first-round pick who had battled injuries and inconsistency his first four seasons. The Chiefs picked up his fifth-year option 鈥?that was no guarantee 鈥?and he has flourished when it comes to getting after the quarterback. He has nine sacks to trail only the Rams' Aaron Donald 鈥?who will be on the field against Kansas City on Monday night 鈥?and the Vikings' Danielle Hunter. His total is also tied with J.J. Watt, Myles Garrett and Von Miller, leaving the always-upbeat Ford in some pretty select company."I don't think anyone in this league can block him coming off that edge one-on-one," said Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt Nolan Cromwell Jersey
, who has tried several times with little success in practice.Ford isn't just getting sacks, though. He has also hit the quarterback an astounding 20 times and has four strip-sacks to give the Chiefs the ball in some crucial situations."Every week, that's really what we preach. When you pressure the quarterback, mistakes happen, turnovers happen," Ford said. "This is just our way of playing defense."The Chiefs' Chris Jones has seven sacks, including one in six straight games, and fellow defensive tackle Allen Bailey has a career-best five. Houston only has three sacks because of injuries, but he was back to near-100 percent against the Cardinals, picking off Rosen at the line of scrimmage."Just hitting the quarterback, affecting him in any type of way," Jones said. "Helping the back-end guys out 鈥?we affect the quarterback with tips, overthrows. They could be incomplete passes or interceptions. We kind of complement each other."Indeed, the Chiefs' aggressive pass rush has been doubly important after their secondary had to go through some growing pains. Kansas City traded away top cornerback Marcus Peters, star safety Eric Berry has been out all season with a heel injury, and fellow safety Daniel Sorensen only recently returned to the field after breaking his leg in training camp.In other words Womens Brian Allen Jersey
, it has been a mishmash of next-man-up lineups in the defensive backfield, putting even more pressure on the guys up front to help them out."We say every week that we've got to be willing to win the game however it presents itself, whether it's on offense, defense or special teams," Ford said. "Defense actually met this week and that's one thing we spoke on: Let's take it to another level. We can't really rely, especially late in the season, off of a lot of points from our offense."They're tremendous," Ford added by way of clarification, "but we can be tremendous also, and the same goes for special teams. Once we play like that as a unit, this team can be really great."NOTES: SS Eric Berry (heel) and C Mitch Morse (concussion) did not practice Thursday. ... Here were some tidbits from the weigh-ins:Weigh-insMississippi State EDGE Montez Sweat was the most impressive body of the day with his 6-foot-6 Steven Nelson Jersey
, 252-pound frame. He also came in with the 36 inch arms. There’s no body fat on Sweat. New Mexico State linebacker Terrell Hanks was the runner up with a 6-foot-2, 234-pound frame. The upper body of Hanks resembled that of you favorite super hero. The on-field performance was way more Clark Kent than Superman. Stetson tight end Donald Parham got noticeable gasps when he measured 6 feet 8 and 3/8 inches and 243 pounds. This is a rare case when a team undersells a player’s measurables, as he was listed at 6 feet 8 and 222 pounds during the season. Normally a measurement like this would warrant 6 feet 9 or higher.Utah safety Marquise Blair came in at very slender 180 pounds at 6 feet 1 and a half. He was expected to be 15 pounds heavier, but his narrow waste reveals someone who will struggle to maintain or gain weight.Temple cornerback Rock Ya Sin was expected to be 6 feet 2 but came in 5 feet 11 and 3/4.Chiefs interviewsMedia sessionsUtah Safety Marquise Blair played junior college ball at Dodge City, Kansas.Washburn cornerback Corey Ballentine not only played in Topeka, but has also called it home since his family moved to the United States from Jamaica.Texas cornerback Kris Boyd intercepted Patrick Mahomes in college. They’ve been competing since high school, as they both grew up in east Texas. North Dakota State running back Bruce Anderson models his game after Alvin Kamara, Saquon Barkley and Todd Gurley. South practice takeawaysTemple cornerback Rock Ya Sin was the best corner for the South.South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel was the best receiver for both teams today. He attacked the ball, is sudden and dynamic. Samuel got Ya Sin on a few reps.San Jose State tight end Josh Oliver impressed throughout the day. He’s a fluid athlete with strong hands. He should be a day-two pick.Like Oliver, LSU tight end Foster Moreau had himself a day. While not quite the athlete Oliver is, he still ran crisp routes and showed strong hands. West Virginia wide receiver David Sills struggled to separate but has the best hands of the Senior Bowl class. He caught everything.Washington State tackle Andre Dillard moves extremely well for a tackle.Clemson wide receiver Hunter Renfrow has the body of an average high school football player on the field but gets open consistently. Mississippi State EDGE Montez Sweat used his length extremely well. He has a strong pass rush plan and flows smoothly from one move to his counter moves.LA Tech EDGE Jaylon Ferguson displayed powerful hands and the ability to move tackles. Old Dominion EDGE Oshane Ximines showed the best ability to get the corner throughout the day.West Virginia linebacker David Long had the best day in the linebacker group. He attacked well Tony Gonzalez Jersey
, and was smooth in drills.Texas A&M defensive lineman Daylon Mack and Kingsley Keke both showed a good first step and powerful hands.North practice takeawaysIt was a quiet day for Delaware safety Nasir Adderley. He was lined up all over the field and displayed good play recognition.Iowa defensive end Anthony Nelson was good against the run in team drills and looked to be winning consistently in one-on-one drills.TCU defensive lineman LJ Collier started a fight after trash talking on back-to-back winning plays. He won in one-on-ones with good hand usage. Western Illinois defensive lineman Khalen Saunders has a good first step, relentless motor and looked like he belonged with upper tier talent.UMass wide receiver Andy Isabella flashed consistently with excellent twitch, good hands and long speed.NC State wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was the best receiver for the North team, winning all over the field. In a David-versus-Goliath type of battle, the behemoth tackle Kaleb McGary dominated 6-foot linebacker Sutton Smith who is transitioning from EDGE to off-ball linebacker but was given a chance to fail miserably off the edge.Stetson tight end Donald Parham can’t get out of a three-point stance but shows some intriguing ability as a large, and I repeat, large target in the pass ground. Penn State cornerback Amani Oruwariye had an up and down performance. Still very intrigued by the skill set. AP LaboratoryWe discussed the Bob Sutton firing and recapped day one of the Senior Bowl on the newest of the AP Laboratory.

BOSTON (AP) — World Series MVP Steve Pearce is staying with the Red Sox.The journeyman first baseman agreed to a $6.25 million http://www.twinsfanproshop.com/authentic-max-kepler-jersey

He earned an additional $150,000 bonus for his selection as World Series MVP. His new deal also includes award bonuses.“We’re thrilled to have Steve back with us for another year as we think he’s a great fit for our club,” Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said in a statement. “Obviously, we all saw what kind of impact he can have on the field Fernando Rodney Jersey

There’s a slight chance the Brewers’ latest free agent splash may not just be a one-year hired gun"There was already plenty to like about the reported agreement between the Milwaukee Brewers and Yasmani Grandal Paul DeJong Jersey
, the top catcher and one of the top players overall on this year’s free agent market. Now that the signing is official, there’s this news: it may not necessarily be a one-year deal.Jon Heyman originally reported the deal as a team option, which obviously would have been a bigger coup for Milwaukee, but Jeff Passan reported it was actually a mutual option, which was backed up by Ken Rosenthal. As we saw with Mike Moustakas and Joakim Soria, though, mutual options are almost never exercised. That’s because most times, if a player is playing well enough for a team to want to pick up that option, he’ll want to opt out and test free agency. If he plays poorly enough where he’d rather take the money in the option, the team likely wouldn’t want him back at that price. It still seems like a safe assumption that this is virtually a one-year deal, but the mutual option is one of those things that it doesn’t really hurt to tack on, just in the odd chance both sides want a one-year reunion.Grandal has every incentive to opt out and try again next winter, including no longer having the qualifying offer and draft pick loss weighing down his potential market. Recent changes to the CBA dictate a player can only be given a qualifying offer once in their career. If a switch to Miller Park helps his offensive numbers as much as some people think, he could be in line for that large multi-year deal he had hoped to get this winter, and it would be hard to talk him into taking that mutual option. Some trends are easier to spot than others, but with the sheer volume of advanced statistics and pitch tracking tools available, there are numerous ways to examine a player’s trajectory and predict where it will take him next. Was the previous season a fluke? Or was it a sign of what’s to come, for better or worse? the AL West, with very little familiarity to AL Central batters, and posted career-worsts in ERA, WHIP and home run rates (HR/9) the season prior to joining the Tigers. This is a bounce-back waiting to happen.Moore had a .342 BABIP against last year, his highest ever and an outlier to his .304 career average. He leaned a bit too heavily on his 91-93 mile-per-hour four-seam fastball, throwing it a career-high 58.4 percent of the time. Perhaps Moore can look to his off-speed pitches more often, particularly the knuckle curve, which has produced a sub-.300 wOBA three of the past four seasons. He is reportedly ditching his cutter, which was absolutely shelled last year. And here’s some good news about Moore, particularly in the wake of the Michael Fulmer situation: Moore has only been on the injured list once since 2015. The Tigers will need as many innings out of him as possible, either until the trade deadline or the end of the season.BreakdownsBlaine Hardy2018 season: 86 innings, 3.56 ERA Evan Longoria Jersey

He started games (for the first time in his MLB career), finished games (earning his first-ever save) and made plenty of appearances in between. When parts of the rotation or bullpen fell apart, he was the duct tape and chewing gum that put it back together. Now, some signs suggest Hardy may fall apart. He has never been a stellar strikeout guy, but he posted a career-low 6.9 strikeouts per nine innings in 2018. That didn’t really hurt him, though, because he recorded his best-ever BABIP (.276) — despite a career-low soft-contact rate of 17.6 percent. That combination of good fortune is unlikely to reoccur. With his various roles last season, Hardy’s usage was 27 innings greater than the two previous seasons combined. Throwing 86 innings may not seem overly intensive, but it’s a big jump for someone who had only ever been a reliever. It’s worth noting that Hardy’s four-seamer and cutter both dipped by about 2 miles per hour last year. That could be attributed to a number of things, including arm fatigue. Other possibilities include altered grips, adjusted mechanics, an effort to improve control Dustin McGowan Jersey
, etc.via Baseball SavantHardy has been productive in Detroit’s bullpen before and he can be now (though in his most recent season as a full-time reliever, in 2017, he had an unsightly 5.94 ERA). The big question is how will he bounce back in the season following his highest usage, in which he was asked to fill several roles — particularly if he is asked to do it again.Niko Goodrum2018 season: 131 games, .245/.315/.432, 103 wRC+, 1.1 fWAR2019 FanGraphs projection: 145 games, .234/.297/.392, 86 wRC+, 0.3 fWARGoodrum was only a rookie last year. That means he has a limited set of big-league data, which makes it more difficult to project how he will fare in his sophomore season. But let’s give it a shot anyway. In 26.8 percent of his at-bats last year, Goodrum struck out. Yes, one could argue he’s still adjusting to MLB pitching, but that adjustment goes both ways. He was a productive fastball hitter (.359 wOBA), but struggled mightily with changeups (.255 wOBA, 40.7 percent whiff rate) and sliders (.293 wOBA http://www.raysfanproshop.com/authentic-evan-longoria-jersey
, 43.2 percent whiff rate). The 27-year-old started 117 games last year and fielded six defensive positions (he didn’t pitch, catch or play center), which earned him the title of a “super-utility player.” He seems destined to play all over the field again, but now there’s a question of how frequently he’ll have his chances — even if Ron Gardenhire is focused on keeping him in the lineup. With the additions of Josh Harrison and Jordy Mercer up the middle, as well as a healthy Miguel Cabrera and a fresh-faced Christin Stewart, Goodrum doesn’t have a solid home in the field. Being a switch hitter helps, but he’s still on the outside looking in.What if he wavers early on, as he did last year, when he posted a .645 OPS in his first 25 games? With a trio of minor-league options available, Goodrum would be a prime candidate to be sent to Toledo for regular playing time. That might be jumping ahead a bit. Again, it’s important to remember how small Goodrum’s career sample size is. But as we continue gathering more robust data on him, so do the opposing teams trying to get him out.

PHOENIX — Closer No. 1 has been out since mid-July.Closer No. 2 Robin Roberts Jersey
, since Thursday. The loss of Brandon Morrow and Pedro Strop has not left the Cubs anything close to out of late-inning options, however.Article continues below ...“It would be real nice if we could be one of those teams that has the best bullpen ERA in the league,” president Theo Epstein said dryly before Monday’s game.“Oh, wait. That’s us.”You could look it up.The Cubs led the NL in bullpen ERA by a quarter of a run before their 5-1 victory over to Arizona on Monday, recently taking over the league lead in that category from the suddenly fragile Diamondbacks‘ corps. The Cubs did not need a closer Monday, when Javier Baez and Kris Bryant hit two-run homers and Kyle Hendricks was one out short of his fourth career complete game while dropping his ERA to 1.76 in 13 September starts the last three seasons.“It started with fastball command,” Hendricks said. “Willy (catcher Willson Contreras) and I were really aggressive early, which is what I’ve been needing to do lately.”Cubs left-hander Mike Montgomery (4-5) is scheduled to face Matt Andriese (3-4), who will make his first start for the Diamondbacks after being acquired from Tampa Bay at the trade deadline.Maybe nothing illustrates the Cubs’ all-arms-on-deck bullpen depth more than their 3-2 victory against Cincinnati last Friday, when former Diamondback left-hander Jorge De La Rosa pitched the ninth for his first career save after back-to-back scoreless innings by Dillon Maples and Jaime Garcia. The Cubs acquired De La Rosa after he was designated for assignment in early August and added Garcia after he had been released by Toronto. Maples has spent most of the year in the minors.“It says a lot about the mettle of those guys,” Epstein said.“We’ve had a deep group all year with contributions from many Tug McGraw Jersey
, many relievers — some expected, some unexpected. They have been resilient. They’ve been executing pitches. It has been next man up. That’s the way it will continue to be.“Obviously we’ve missed Brandon and we’re missing ‘Stropy’ right now. Our pen is more than just one or two guys.”Morrow had 22 saves before going on the disabled list in mid-July, and he is expected back soon, perhaps later in the Arizona series. Strop has 13 saves, and five others have at least one.The Cubs’ last five victories have been saved by five different closers — Jesse Chavez, Strop, Randy Rosario, De La Rosa and Steve Cishek.“It’s not exactly the way we drew it up, but we have quality relievers out there who are unafraid and going right at guys and making quality pitches,” Epstein said. “We feel confident we are going to protect leads. It’s just a matter of getting those leads.”The Cubs’ five-run burst was their biggest since a 6-5 loss to Washington on Sept. 8. They have scored 20 runs in their last eight games. The Diamondbacks’ offense has fared a little better recently, scoring 27 runs on a seven-game road trip to Colorado and Houston and getting only three hits Monday. They have lost eight of 10 to fall five games behind the Dodgers in the NL West and five games behind St. Louis for the second wild card.“We want to go out and play our best baseball. That’s all we can do right now Drew Hutchison Jersey
,” Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said.“We’ve experienced a lot of frustration over the past 2 1/2, three weeks, but we have to place that aside. We haven’t played our best baseball in a long time, so we want to focus on being ourselves and see where that lands us.”Montgomery has a 3.87 ERA while splitting time between starting and relieving. He rejoined the Cubs’ rotation on Aug. 30 and has been on a limited pitch count since, getting into the fifth inning only once in his last three turn while giving up two runs in four innings in each of his last two.Montgomery has been much more effective as a starter, going 4-4 with a 3.48 in 16 starts. He has made 19 relief appearances. He did not face the Diamondbacks in their previous series after the All-Star break and has a 1.69 ERA in three career outings against them, one start.Andriese, who has a 7.31 ERA in six appearances with Arizona, did not have decision in four starts with Tampa Bay this season, where he was used as an “opener,” logging only 11 1/3 innings in those starts. He was 3-4 with a 4.07 ERA in 27 appearances with the Rays this season after making 36 starts in 2016-17.His Diamondbacks ERA was skewed by his last outing Larry Bowa Jersey
, when he gave up seven runs in 1 1/3 innings when he asked to take one for the team in the late stages of a 13-2 loss at Colorado last Monday.“I think he can go out there and do his job and execute a game plan,” Lovullo said. “He’s pitched in a very rugged AL East and had a lot of success. Since he’s been here, it’s been good and bad. Him getting the baseball is going to be a whole new fresh outlook on things. I wanted to see what it looked like.” WASHINGTON (AP) — Free agent infielder Brian Dozier’s $9 million, one-year contract with the Washington Nationals includes $2 million in salary that is deferred without interest until Jan. 15, 2020.Washington announced the deal Sunday, three days after it was agreed to subject to a successful physical.Dozier can earn additional award bonuses, such as for making the All-Star team, winning Gold Glove or Silver Slugger awards, finishing among the top three in MVP voting or earning the World Series of League Championship Series MVP award.Dozier, who played for the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers last season, fills Washington’s need for a starting second baseman and could help add some power to the lineup Jim Bunning Jersey
, particularly important if slugging outfielder Bryce Harper ends up leaving as a free agent.By only committing to Dozier for one season, the Nationals leave open the possibility of turning to leading infield prospect Carter Kieboom at second base in 2020.Dozier batted a career-low .215 with 21 homers and 72 RBIs last year. He averaged 35 homers over the preceding three seasons, with a career best of 42 for Minnesota in 2016. He was an AL All-Star in 2015.In 2017, Dozier led AL second baseman in fielding percentage and won a Gold Glove. While still waiting to find out what will happen with Harper, the Nationals’ additions have included lefty starter Patrick Corbin, catchers Yan Gomes and Kurt Suzuki, relievers Kyle Barraclough and Trevor Rosenthal, and backup first baseman Matt Adams.

Setbacks happen, of course, but after a dominant season at multiple minor league levels, Houston’s stock is rising quickly. One could have written these exact words about righthander Bryan Garcia at this time last year. We basically did, in fact, but had to make a quick adjustment when Garcia underwent Tommy John surgery in February to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Garcia basically became a forgotten man in the meantime, as Houston and other Tigers prospects seemingly passed him in the pecking order. While other sites may have dinged Garcia’s ranking slightly as he recovers from surgery, we have not. Garcia was viewed as a promising relief arm prior to his procedure and http://www.royalsfanproshop.com/authentic-ryan-goins-jersey
, based on early reports, is progressing well in his rehab. Assuming all goes to plan, he will get back on the mound in 2019 and work his way back up the minor league ranks. While we should not expect Garcia to see extensive time at the major league level, he could potentially earn a late call-up and re-establish himself as a part of the team’s future plans in their bullpen.BackgroundThe Tigers selected Garcia out of Miami with their sixth round pick in the 2016 amateur draft. Garcia starred with the Hurricanes, earning All-America honors in two of his three years in Coral Gables. He was Miami’s all-time saves leader when he left school, and was the NCAA Stopper of the Year in his junior season after racking up an ACC-record 43 saves in his three years of action.Garcia picked up right where he left off after signing his deal. He posted a 1.00 ERA in 18 innings with short-season Connecticut in 2016, striking out 21 batters to just three walks. He made a big move in 2017, pitching at four minor league levels before finishing the year at Triple-A Toledo. He was dominant in three of those stops, striking out 66 batters in just 41 2鈦? innings from Single-A West Michigan to Double-A Erie.StrengthsPrior to his surgery, Garcia featured a high-octane fastball that reached as high as 98 miles per hour. Our friends at FanGraphs graded it as a plus offering, and his control helps the pitch play up a bit more. He attacks hitters aggressively with the pitch, and frequently gets ahead in the count. His control may suffer a bit early on after he returns to the mound, but as TigsTown mentioned, Garcia can get hitters out with quality sequencing and execution.Garcia supplements his fastball with two above-average secondary pitches. His slider is the better of the two Blaine Boyer Jersey
, and flashes plus at times. Like the fastball, it plays up due to his control, which is a nice change of pace relative to other hard-throwing Tigers relievers we’ve seen in the past.Garcia’s changeup is a solid third pitch, and much better than many other relief arms you will see. FanGraphs also grades it as a potential plus pitch, but one that currently (well, as of 2017) sits a half-grade below the slider. The changeup even led multiple outlets to suggest that Garcia could transition into the starting rotation, both right after he was drafted and as recently as last spring. His surgery and subsequent rehab will probably change that — building him up to a starter’s workload would take a few years, as well as more all-around development — and Garcia might ultimately drop the changeup down the road, especially if he can’t quite get a feel for it when he gets back on the mound.WeaknessesPicking out weaknesses for relievers can be a bit tough at times. Garcia has the requisite control that fails other power arms, but it may take him a bit of time to regain that aspect of his game as he continues to recover from surgery. There is also no guarantee that Garcia ever quite makes it back to his previous form, though the team’s current timetable — back on the mound in March, throwing in games in May — suggests that he has gotten past many of the larger hurdles in his way. While Garcia has plenty in his tank in terms of velocity, he doesn’t have the true high-octane stuff that other late inning arms possess. He struggled to put away hitters when he reached Triple-A Toledo in 2017, and most reports suggest that his pitches “play up” due to his control. This is fine http://www.royalsfanproshop.com/authentic-ryan-goins-jersey
, but unless Garcia continues to hone his command and locates well, he may get hit a bit harder at higher levels. Big league hitters, in particular, can easily time a high-90s fastball if it isn’t placed where it needs to be. Given the command issues many pitchers have following Tommy John surgery, we may see a few rough outings here and there from the 23-year-old righty.Projected 2019 team: Toledo Mud HensAfter having Tommy John surgery last spring, Garcia won’t quite be ready to throw off a mound at the beginning of spring training. He should start throwing bullpen sessions soon after, though, and is currently slated to return to competitive action in mid-May. He will make the usual slow ascent up the minor league ranks when he returns to game action, and likely settle in at Toledo at the end of his rehab assignment. Should things go well, we could potentially see Garcia make his MLB debut towards the end of the 2019 season. He will be Rule 5 eligible next offseason, and the Tigers may want to see him in major league action come September. Assuming he picks up where he left off in 2017, we could see Garcia competing for high-leverage innings at this time next year.(h/t 2080 Baseball for the video)

That all changed tonight in the bottom of the 5th inning when Puig roped a double down the left field line to bring in 2 runners and get the Reds back into the game. In all, he went 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 RBI. That’s good enough for tonight, because tonight has sucked.Honorable mentions are due to: Amir Garrett, for looking fantastic in his 1.2 innings of work; Zach Duke and David Hernandez Salvador Perez Jersey

Lorenzo Cain led off with a four-pitch walk. After a Christian Yelich strikeout, Roark served up a meatball to Ryan Braun who laced a double to left. Travis Shaw would then walk to load the bases, leading to a Jesus Aguilar single to drive in 2. That brought up Mike Moustakas, who would double to center to bring in Shaw. Brewers led, 3-0.The Reds, after seemingly threatening every inning, finally got on the board. Derek Dietrich led off and was hit by a pitch then moved to second on a wild pitch. Dietrich would then advance to third on a ground out by Scott Schebler. After a Joey Votto walk http://www.royalsfanproshop.com/authentic-ryan-goins-jersey

Jose Peraza led off with a single to left and then moved to second on a single by Tucker Barnhart. Kyle Farmer would come in to pinch hit and ground into a fielder’s choice to short, leaving runners on first and third. That brought up Derek Dietrich, who hit a double play ball to second but was able to run out the throw, allowing Peraza to score from third and tie the game at 3-3.The score held until the top of the 9th, when Milwaukee regained the lead. Raisel Iglesias was brought on and easily retired the first two batters. He then gave up a 2-out double to Christian Yelich. , 52 degree day at Salt River fields. With the snow capped Mcdowell Mountains and Four Peaks in the background, today was a day the fans sitting on the sun side along the 3rd base line got the better of it.Next week will be a different story I suppose as the temps should reach the mid 70’s.Rule 5 pickNick Green got the start for the Diamondbacks today. He successfully navigated two scoreless innings, working around a 2 out double by David Dahl in the first, and a HBP and a Walk in the 2nd as the Ketel Marte Nick Ahmed keystone combo picked him up with a nifty double play.Green’s Cut Fastball, Curve and Slider combo looked pretty good to me.But he will have a tough road to make the opening day roster. Perhaps the DBacks will end up trying to make a trade for him before the end of spring. If they can’t and he doesn’t make the roster , he will have to be returned to the Yankees. In the bottom of the first Steven SouzaJr. came up with 2 on and 2 out, and jumped on a hanging curveball from Chad Bettis, knocking it for a 3 run homer to Left Center Field.Unfortunately that would be all the scoring on the day for the DBacks. The Starters managed to scratch a few infield hits, one by Yasmany Tomas and another by Ketel Marte. However by the 5th inning the starters were all out of the game and the reserves could do no better. Meanwhile Jorge Posada Jersey
, Green was pulled after 2 innings, and was relieved by Marc Rzepczynski, who if he makes the team will be referred to by his nickname “Scrabble” from here on out.He worked a perfect 3rd, retiring the side in just 9 pitches.Next out of the pen was Jimmie Sherfy.Things did not go so well for him, as he struggled with his mechanics and very inconsistent fastball velocity and command. After surrendering a leadoff double to David Dahl, he hit Trevor story with a pitch.Story was removed from the game with an elbow contusion. After a strikeout, Sherfy gave up a sharp single through the box to score two runs, then allowed another single, but got out of the inning with just the 2 runs allowed by inducing a 6-4-3 double play.Joey Krehbiel pitched the 4th inning and although he was pumping 94-95 MPH fastballs. he too would give up a couple of hits and a run http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey
, allowing the Rockies to tie it up 3-3 in the top of the 5th.Following that, Ryan Atkinson came on to throw an impressive 6th inning.Firing 95MPH fastballs at the top of the zone Rockies hitters could not catch up to, he retired the side in order with 2 K’s, one swinging and one looking.Joel Payamps worked a scoreless 7th, but after giving up a leadoff single in the 8th, Sam Hilliard ripped a line drive homerun down the right field line to give the Rockies the lead 5-3.The DBacks did have a couple of moments where it looked like they might get back on the board. In the bottom of the 7th Jazz Chisholm drew a one out walk, and then Kevin Cron hit a deep smash to the warning track in Center Field. But Rockies CF Yonathon Daza made a nice running grab with his glove fully extended to rob Cron of extra bases. The DBacks threatened again in the bottom of the 8th. With2 out and 2 on, Tim Locastro hit a slicing liner to right , but Hilliard made a nice catch after getting turned around to end the inning. The Rockies put two more runs on the board in the top of the 9th on a two run home to left by Colton Welker off a Stefan Crichton 0-2 curveball.Hard throwing Rockies reliever Justin Lawrence Johnny Damon Jersey
, who impressed me quite a bit in the Arizona Fall League, came on to pitchan dominating 1-2-3 9th to end the game. A note about the Pitch Clock: It was in use this game, as it will be for all of spring. One could barely notice, and Torey Lovullo mentioned in the post game that the players didn’t even mention it during the game.Torey also said the umpires aren’t really enforcing it yet. I happened to notice that once the pitchers came set, and the clock stopped counting down, a couple of the Rockies pitchers seemed to hold set longer than normal. Jonathan Daniel/Getty ImagesHere's an interesting question: Did Cole Hamels need the Chicago Cubs or did the Cubs need Hamels?Early in the veteran left-hander's North Side tenure Will Middlebrooks Jersey
, the answer appears to be a resounding "yes and yes."When the Cubs acquired Hamels from the Texas Rangers before the non-waiver trade deadline, their rotation was in trouble. Yu Darvish, their $126 million man, had an ugly 4.95 ERA and was dealing with triceps and elbow issues that would eventually cost him his season.Neither Jon Lester nor Jose Quintana was pitching like a top-shelf starter. Tyler Chatwood was battling command problems.Overall, Cubs pitchers posted a 4.56 ERA in July.Chicago was hoping Hamels would be the cavalry as it battled for supremacy in the National League Central and aimed for another deep postseason run. But there was no guarantee.Hamels has an ace's resume, with four All-Star appearances and four top-10 Cy Young Award finishes. He owns a 3.48 ERA across 98.1 playoff innings and won a ring with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008.Lately, though, he's been less a reliable stud and more of a payroll drag. In 2017, the Rangers paid him $23.5 million, part of a $144 million extension he signed with Philadelphia in 2012. For that lofty sum, Hamels gave Texas a 4.20 ERA and career-low 6.4 strikeouts per nine innings. He turned 34 in December. It was worth wondering if his career was on an irreversible downslope.G Fiume/Getty ImagesThis season with the Rangers, he posted a 4.72 ERA with 114 strikeouts in 114.1 innings. Despite a rough July in which he coughed up 21 earned runs in 17 frames, it was enough to entice the Cubs to send a couple of minor league arms and a player to be named later to Texas in a change-of-scenery swap.So far, Hamels has been a revelation. In six starts with Chicago, he's 4-0 with an 0.69 ERA. The opportunity to pitch for a winner in the heat of a pennant race has brought out his best."To be able to change kind of the mindset, now to go on a first-place team, there's something inside of you that sparks when you get in those situations," he told reporters at the time of the trade.Hamels' average fastball has clocked in at 92.7 mph this season, per FanGraphs, a tick above his career mark of 92.3 mph. But he's throwing it just 26.8 percent of the time compared to a career average of 39.2 percent and relying more on hisoff-speed offerings. Here he is authoring a complete game August 23 against the Cincinnati Reds and throwing like a guy you'd gladly hand the ball to under the bright October lights:Most essentially, he's given the Cubs a necessary ingredient to wrest control of the division and getback to the Fall Classic."He has all the credentials http://www.philliesfanproshop.com/authentic-pat-neshek-jersey Jersey
," first baseman Anthony Rizzosaid, per ESPN.com's Jesse Rogers. "And he seems like he's having a good time."Hamels has a $20 million team option for next season, with an innings-based $24 million vesting option that he's unlikely to qualify for and a $6 million buyout. The Cubs probably won't pull the trigger at $20 million, but Hamels has pitched well enough to earn a lucrative deal this winter, in Chicago or somewhere else. We're insmall-sampleterritory, admittedly. No one expects Hamels to maintain a sub-1.00 ERA over the long haul. But he's not that far removed from success, either. He was an All-Star who eclipsed 200 innings as recently as 2016.Now, he's turning back the clock. The Cubbies needed him. He needed the Cubbies. Sometimes, these things just work out. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Before Ila Borders became the first female pitcher to start a college baseball game or pitch professionally in an independent league in the 1990s, the lefty felt almost like she was in a fight just to be on the field.“When I was playing, they tried to do everything possible to not let me play, or they didn’t want the media attention, and it was an uphill battle,” Borders said Friday. “Now I feel like people are searching and looking and trying to develop that talent. For me, that’s an awesome feeling and it’s great to see.”Borders is one of the coaches this weekend for MLB Grit, an inaugural high school invitational baseball tournament for 64 teenage girls from the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico that were split into four teams to play four games each.On Friday, which was International Women’s Day, each team got to play a game in a big league ballpark — Globe Life Park, the home of the Texas Rangers. , an 18-year-old pitcher/shortstop who was on Team USA in the Women’s Baseball Cup last summer, hopes to play college baseball next season.Lansdell has been playing baseball since she was 4 years old — “I’ve been told since when I was like really young to go play softball, I just straight-up said ‘No’,” she said — and started pitching when she was about 10.“My travel team needed some pitching, and they just put me on the mound,” she said. “They just threw me on there and I had good mechanics from watching people and being on the field so much. Ever since then, I’ve upped my game, my mechanics and velocity.”The right-handed senior for the varsity team at Wheeler High in Marietta, Georgia, now throws four-seam and two-seam fastballs, with a velocity of just more than 80 mph, plus has two different changeups, a slider and a curveball.Delaney Dunham, a 15-year-old freshman left-handed pitcher/outfielder from Dayton, Texas, switched from softball to baseball when she was 12 years old and her goal is to play one day for Team USA. She missed a tournament with her Barbers High baseball team this weekend.Along with the four games each team will play, the girls at MLB Grit will go through special developmental presentations this weekend, including tips on the collegiate recruiting process and information about careers within baseball.MLB is going into its third year of the Trailblazer Series for girls at its Compton Youth Academy in California, and last summer had its first Breakthrough Series for high school girls at the Dodgertown spring training complex in Vero Beach, Florida. What made MLB Grit different from those events was having more game competition for the girls.“Most of them are the only girls on their teams,” said Kim Ng Nick Williams Jersey
, MLB’s senior vice president for baseball and softball development. “This is one of the few opportunities they actually get to compete against other girls, which is also why is fairly unique. “Ng said youth participation is one of Commissioner Rob Manfred’s most important agenda and platform items.“The first thing is No. 1, just to provide opportunity. No. 2, we need to shed light on these kids, on these young women and girls,” Ng said. “We think this is the best game in the world, and we don’t want to discourage anybody from playing it.”Allison Schroder is a 16-year-old junior from Fruitvale, British Columbia who played for Team Canada last summer and is on her high school team that competes in the state of Washington.“I’d love to play baseball at a college level,” said Schroder, a pitcher and shortstop. “Just to be able to play the game while getting an education has always been a good goal of mine.”Borders is among nine former and current players and staff from the USA Baseball Women’s National team instructing the girls. The other coaches are former MLB pitcher Marvin Freeman, infielder Homer Bush who was a member of the 1998 World Series champion New York Yankees and Morehouse College coach Antonio Grissom.Grissom, the brother of former big leaguer Marquis Grissom, was also part of the Breakthrough Series last summer and has been impressed by what he’s seen.“These girls are fundamentally sound,” he said. “In terms of the velocity and the strength, there’s a separation there. But in terms of the technique and fundamentals, they’re pretty sound. They’re going to make the routine plays, they’re going to throw strikes. Some of their secondary stuff is above average for their age, so that gives them a chance.”

CHICAGO (AP) — Ben Zobrist figured plate umpire Phil Cuzzi was going to give him the boot regardless Edinson Volquez Jersey
, so the Chicago Cubs veteran didn’t hold back during his first career ejection.Zobrist told Cuzzi he would prefer an “electronic strike zone” before being ejected in the eighth inning of Chicago’s 7-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. That came two innings after Cubs manager Joe Maddon was tossed for the second time in four games after Cuzzi called Zobrist out on strikes.Zobrist was waiting on deck in the eighth when Javier Baez struck out to end the inning. Zobrist approached Cuzzi to say he didn’t appreciate being told to “be quiet” after getting called out in the sixth on a pitch he thought was a ball. He wanted assurances that the umpire would look over the play and “make an adjustment.”“He didn’t want me to tell him that,” Zobrist said. “I just basically said, ‘Well, that’s why we want an electronic strike zone.’ And that’s what obviously got me tossed.”The slider that Zobrist took for strike three from starter Jhoulys Chacin has been called a strike 44.7 percent of the time, according to ESPN Stats & Info.Maddon’s ejection was his third this season. He allowed six hits and three runs while striking out six in 7 1/3 innings for his first major-league win.Reid-Foley had 10 strikeouts Sunday in his first major-league win at Miami. That’s the best we’ve seen it.“I think those first two starts and then he went back down, I think he had a lot of confidence coming into today.”One of the call-ups who has become a big fan favorite is first baseman Rowdy Tellez, who had two more doubles Friday and an RBI. , who missed the Indians’ 9-4 victory on Thursday, was used only as a pinch hitter Friday and grounded out in the 10th inning. He suffered a bruised left foot on a foul ball Wednesday in the 3-1 win over the Kansas City Royals. With the Indians’ magic number to clinch the AL Central down to seven, they are going to be extra cautious with Brantley, who was out of the lineup Friday night against the Blue Jays.“I’m probably being a little overprotective,” Indians manager Terry Francona said. “I think it’s probably the prudent thing to do.”The 31-year-old Brantley is hitting .303 with an .819 OPS and 14 home runs in 125 games this season. The Indians’ clinching number in the AL Central remained at seven after the second-place Minnesota Twins beat the Royals 10-6 on Friday.

, the Minnesota Vikings started the second quarter facing a 2nd-and-12 from their own 22-yard line. Kirk Cousins connected with C.J. Ham to make it a 3rd-and-6, but Cousins was then flushed out of the pocket by Trey Flowers and threw short of Dalvin Cook to end the drive. Matt Wile came in to punt it away, and the punt was returned by Julian Edelman to the New England 31-yard line for the next possession for Tom Brady and company.Rex Burkhead carried for a 10-yard gain on first down to move the sticks for the Patriots right away, and Stephen Weatherly then blew Burkhead up in the backfield for a loss of four. A shovel pass from Brady to James White got eight yards, and another run by White, this one an end-around, allowed the Patriots to convert and move into Minnesota territory. The James White Show then continued, as Brady hit him with a short pass that he turned into a 15-yard gain, and the Patriots were down to the Minnesota 29.Cordarrelle Patterson then took a handoff for a gain of six, and a toss to Burkhead was stopped short of the first down by a yard. Sony Michel then converted on third down, and the Patriots were once again in the red zone. The Vikings then forced another third down situation Laquon Treadwell Jersey
, and Brady found White once again to make it a first-and-goal for New England. Michel was stopped on first-and-goal, and a pass to Edelman was stopped short as well. Brady tried to find Edelman on third down, but Anthony Harris managed to knock the ball away to bring up fourth-and-goal at the 1. Stephen Gostkowski came on and connected on a 20-yard field goal to increase the New England lead to 10-0 with 5:45 left in the half.Ameer Abdullah got an opportunity to return Gostkowski’s kickoff, and he got a nice return out to the Minnesota 35. Dalvin Cook got the drive started with a nice gain of 18 yards, and the Vikings were quickly into New England territory at the 48. After a short pass to Cook, a nice run by him was erased by a holding penalty on Tom Compton to make it 2nd-and-17. Cousins misfired on second down, and a short pass to Latavius Murray was nowhere close to the line to gain. Wile came on to punt again, and Edelman called for a fair catch at the New England 17.The Patriots started the drive with a run by Michel and a pass to Rob Gronkowski to appear to move the sticks and bring us to the two-minute warning.
